2006 eruption

On 17 March 2006 there was a sudden explosive eruption near Green Lake, ejecting ash, mud and rocks. Mark Kearney, a Department of Conservation observer, was killed. Similar explosive eruptions had occurred at the same site in 1815, 1870 and 1964.
