Whitbread fleet leaves Auckland, 1998

New Zealanders became heavily involved in international yachting competitions such as the Whitbread Round the World race. They became professional sailors of hugely expensive high-tech yachts paid for by commercial sponsorship. The advertising logos on these Whitbread yachts leaving Auckland for Brazil show the importance of commercial support.
