John Reece Cole and Christine Bull were married in Wellington in 1948. The couple were part of the lively Wellington literary scene of the 1950s, when Christine was working as a journalist and John as a librarian at the Alexander Turnbull Library. They separated in 1967, after John suffered serious brain damage in two road accidents.
