Kōrero: Theatre companies and producers

Dunedin's Globe Theatre

Dunedin's Globe Theatre

Patric and Rosalie Carey overcame all obstacles to provide quality live theatre in Dunedin. In 1961 the Careys built their own theatre, the Globe, behind their house. Patric was the producer, while Rosalie worked on costumes, kept the books, fed the cast and crew, and took various minor parts. This photo shows the couple with (bottom, from left) theatre programmes and scenes from a 1957 garden production of Medea by Euripides, a 1966 production of The house of Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca, a 1970 production of The temptations of Oedipus by James K. Baxter and another unidentified musical work. The Globe remained an active element in Dunedin theatre in 2014.
