Atu i te pokapūtanga o te rau tau 1800, ko ngā mahi pāmu te kaupapa ōhanga matua ki Te Tai Rāwhiti. Inā te nui o te Māori i mahi hei kaiahuwhenua, hei kaimahi ahuwhenua hoki. Kei runga i te whakaahua nei ko ngā kaimahi Māori i runga i tētahi pāmu hipi ki Te Tai Rāwhiti. Ko te tau kei waenganui i 1906 me 1910.
