Brendan Telfer (left), Peter Williams (centre) and Phillip Leishman (right) are seen at the New Zealand Golf Awards in Auckland in November 2006. All three were veterans of television broadcasting in New Zealand. Telfer worked for Television New Zealand from 1974 and for Radio Sport from 1998, and became known for his commentating on Olympic Games and netball. Before becoming a news presenter Peter Williams commentated at Olympic and Commonwealth games and at rugby and cricket world cups, and was an important television reporter on golf. Phillip Leishman had been a broadcaster since 1970, and was notable for hosting coverage of four Olympic and five Commonwealth games, and commentating on horse racing, tennis, yachting and, most significantly, on golf.
