After playing for New Zealand, Ruth Aitken began her coaching career in 1991 with regional teams, including North Harbour, Counties–Manukau Cometz and Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic. From 2001 to 2011 she was coach of the Silver Ferns, guiding them to victories in the world championship and Commonwealth Games. Here, Aitken talks to the Ferns during the world championship semi-final game against Jamaica in 2007.
