I tangohia tēnei whakaahua i te tau 1890 ki roto i te whare o Tamatekapua ki Ōhinemutu. Kei muri i te tēpu ko Tawa rāua ko te Kaiwhakawā Matua o te Kōti Whenua Māori ko Kaiwhakawā Francis Dart Fenton (kei waenganui). Ko te kaupapa o te hui ko te hokotanga o ngā whenua i mōhiotia ai ko te taone ngāwhā o Rotorua. Heoi kāore a Ngāti Whakaue i mātau tērā ka hokona tōna papa whenua mō ake tonu atu. Kāti nō te tau 1993, ka whakatauria tō rātou take taraipiunara ki tēnei kōheri.
