Ko te Pākehā Kōtimana nei ko Te Makarini tēnei. Koia te kaihoko matua a te Karauna mai i te tau 1848 ki te tekau tau 1870. Kei te taha mauī a ia e noho ana i te take o tētahi rākau i te hui hoko whenua ki Te Wairoa i te tau 1865. I taua wā ko Te Makarini te āpiha matua o te porowini, he kaihoko kāwanatanga, i hua koia tētahi o ngā kaipupuri whenua nunui o te rohe.
