Shearing gang

Shearing gang

While East Coast Māori derived some income from rentals on land leased to Pākehā, many worked for wages in occupations such as shearing, timber felling and grass sowing. Both Māori men and women are pictured in this shot of a shearing gang at work on Rangatira station, near Te Karaka, in 1893.
