The cast of Glide time, a satire on life in the New Zealand public service, pose outside a Wellington government office building in 1976, the year the play was first performed. It was written by Roger Hall, who emigrated from the UK in 1958 and worked as a primary-school teacher and a public servant in the Ministry of Education. Hall also performed in theatre, musical and comedy productions before becoming a full-time playwright. Glide time became the basis for a television series, Gliding on, which first screened in 1981.
