Nō ngā tau tōmua o te tau 2000 ka kake ake te tokomaha o ngā Māori e whai ana i te mātauranga whare wānanga. Ko tētahi take ko te whakatuwheratanga o ngā whare wānanga Māori. He rā whakapōtae tēnei ki Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, he wānanga Māori i whakatūhia e Ngāti Awa i te tau 1991.
