Girl Citizens, Easter 1929

Members of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), termed 'Girl Citizens', in camp at Manukau, Auckland. At the time notions of social engineering and creating ideal citizens were very much in vogue in the Western world. Members of the YWCA were encouraged to become involved in civics  the study of a citizen's rights and duties.
