Original settlers, Norsewood Golden Jubilee

Photographed in 1922, these pioneers of Norsewood, founded in 1872, have surnames such as Petersen, Christiansen and Lund. Their lined faces tell of half a century of toil, turning bush to farm. When these old-timers died, the Scandinavian languages went with them.

The Winger family consisting of Johan and Johanna with their 5 children arrived in Napier on the Hovding in 1872. Eldest daughter Marie Josephine who married William Jones in 1878 at Takapau is Grandmother to the Jones family of Palmerston North. I seek family members to share the information and documentation I have on this family.
