Kotahi anō rā te tipuna taketake o ngā iwi katoa o Ngāti Whātua. Ki ngā iwi ka noho ki te raki o te rohe ko Tuputupuwhenua tōna ingoa, ki ngā iwi ki te tonga o te rohe, ko Tumutumuwhenua kē tōna ingoa. E kī ana te kōrero ko ngā uri o Tuputupuwhenua te iwi tuatahi kia noho ki te ngahere o Waipoua. I tēnei wa, e 75 ōrau o ngā kauri o Aotearoa kei te ngahere o Waipoua. Ko Tāne Mahuta te rākau nui rawa atu i te motu.
