He mea tango tēnei whakaahua i The old-time Māori (1938), te pukapuka a Mākereti Papakura. He urukehu a Tonihi (matau) rāua ko tana tamaiti. Whakapono ai ētahi he uri nō te patupaiarehe ngā tāngata urukehu. Heoi, hei tā Mākereti Papakura, i ahu mai tēnei toto urukehu a te Māori i Hawaiki, nō te hononga o te ira Māori ki te ira patupaiarehe. I tua atu hei tāna, ko ngā korako te hua o ngā aitanga a te Māori me te patupaiarehe. Hei tā Mākereti Papakura, ‘he tipua te patupaiarehe i roto i te kohu ... whakarehurehu ana rātou i te kohu ... he iwi kiritea, ko ō rātou pūeru anō he hiraka.’
