Te Hoata rāua ko Te Pupu

I te taenga o Ngātoroirangi ki Aotearoa mai i Hawaiki, ka haere ia ki uta hōpara haere ai. I tētahi wāhi ko Onetapu te ingoa, ka tau te makariri ki runga ki a ia. Kātahi ka karanga ia ki ana tuāhine a Te Hoata rāua ko Te Pupu, kia heria mai te ahi i Hawaiki hei whakamahana, hei whakaora i a ia. Ka rere mai te tokorua rā mā roto i te kōpū o Papatūānuku.
