As these charts show, in the first 12 years of the 21st century there was a striking change in New Zealanders' television channel preferences. Television New Zealand's channels, TV One and TV2, both fell in audience support. In 2000 almost two-thirds of the time Kiwis spent watching television was on those two channels, but by 2012 their viewing had declined to little more than two-fifths. The channels that saw significant increases in public viewing were those controlled by Sky Television: their free-to-air channel, Prime, and the other Sky channels, which were available only by paid subscription. However, in the evening prime-time free-to-air channels continued to attract over three-quarters of the total audience.
