Appointing a clerk of the warden’s court

After some modest gold finds near Te Puke, a warden for the ‘Tauranga goldfields’ was appointed on the first day of 1897. But a geological report a year later noted that while the reefs might interest a student of geology, they held little attraction for a miner.
