Ko ngā hōia koti whero  me tētahi toa Māori e kero ana mai i muri i tētahi pā harakeke. Kei waho atu rātou i te pā o Kawiti a Ōhaeawai ki Pēwhairangi i te marama o Hūrae i te tau 1845. Koinei te pakanga  tuatoru i tūria ki te tai tokerau, i muri i te topenga a Hōne Heke i te pou haki ki Kororāreka i te tau 1845. Nāwai ka kōkiritia e ngā koti whero te pā, engari ka whārona awatea rātou i reira. Nā ōna hūneinei ki te Māori ka whakarerekētia e te Kāwanatanga ōna ture ārahi mō te Māori. Ka tīmata i konei te takahi haere a Hōri Kerei i ngā mana o ngā rangatira iwi.
