Enderby settlement promissory note

This note was used to pay workers at the Enderby settlement at Port Ross in the Auckland Islands. The bearer was promised payment of £1 sterling by the Southern Whale Fishery Company, which had been established by Charles Enderby to develop a major whaling enterprise based in the Auckland Islands.
