This poster produced by the New Zealand Defence Force shows the British and other foreign orders, decorations and medals, including military ones, awarded to New Zealanders. Because of New Zealand’s close ties with Britain and its inheritance of the British honours system, New Zealand military personnel were eligible for the military awards until 1999, when New Zealand military honours were instituted.
The top and bottom panels illustrate the specifically military awards. Zoom in to see the detail of the medals and read the explanatory text.
