The New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society was formed in 1923 to encourage New Zealanders to conserve birds and the forests on which many depend. This poster, from 1926 or 1927, highlights the importance of native birds to the forests – they pollinate trees and bushes, and disperse their seeds. It also reminds poachers, vandals and bird collectors of penalties under the new Animals Protection and Game Act 1921–22. The New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society is now named the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society, also known as Forest and Bird.
