Hot spring with cyanobacteria

Video file

A clear spring escapes from a vent on the Rainbow Fault at Ōrākei Kōrako. There are grey sinter deposits in the splash zone. Orange cyanobacteria grow where water temperature is reduced to about 60°C, changing to a green variety in lower temperatures downstream. This video was made in March 2004.
