Tihe mauriora

This performance of 'Hoki mai' by the Ngāti Pōneke Māori Club appeared on the programme Tihe mauriora in 1974. It was typical of the way that Māori were represented on New Zealand television in the 1960s and 1970s. There was relatively frequent presentation of waiata, action songs and poi dances, but little about other aspects of traditional Māori culture or about the situation of modern Māori in the city.
