The Benson and Hedges Fashion Design awards ran from 1964 until the mid-1990s and were the premier event of their kind. Designers submitted garments for consideration by a selection panel, which included leading members of the New Zealand fashion scene as well as overseas designers. Successful garments were then submitted to further scrutiny at the awards night, where winners in various categories were chosen.
