Black Grace was set up in 1995 by Samoan dancer and choreographer Neil Ieremia. It was New Zealand's first Pacific contemporary dance group, with dancers of Pacific (several are Samoan) and Māori ethnicity. The group is widely acknowledged as one of the country's best contemporary dance groups and has built up a strong international reputation. Black Grace is shown performing at Jacob's Pillow, the United States' premier dance festival, in 2005.
