Watch an excerpt from Niu Sila, a play exploring the friendship between a Samoan and a palagi (Pākehā) boy, with all its cross-cultural challenges and rewards, in 1970s suburban New Zealand. The actors, playing multiple characters, are David Fane and Damon Andrews. Niu Sila was written jointly by Oscar Kightley, originally known for his association with the Pacific Underground theatre company, and Dave Armstrong of Armstrong Creative. It premiered at Downstage Theatre, Wellington, in 2003.
