This film tells the barely believable but true story of Burt Munro, an aging tinkerer from Invercargill, who in 1967 set a world speed record on his antique Indian motorcycle that remained unbeaten in 2013. It was written, produced and directed by Roger Donaldson, whose earlier films Sleeping dogs and Smash palace also fit neatly within the theme of Kiwi male culture. The world's fastest Indian, starring well-known British actor Anthony Hopkins as Munro, appeared in 2005. This extract shows some of the obstacles Munro needed to overcome in order to race at Bonneville Salt Flats against the best in the world.
