McDonald's, Porirua, 1977

McDonald's first opened in New Zealand in 1976, entering the family restaurant market already occupied by American franchises Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pizza Hut, and New Zealand equivalents Hungry Horse and Cobb & Co. Watch this clip from a 1977 documentary, which compares the traditional takeaway bar with the 'McDonald's experience' on offer in Porirua that year.
