With its temperate climate and lush pasture, New Zealand is recognised as an ideal country for breeding thoroughbreds. This 1968 documentary, Bred to win, shows several leading horse studs and some of the horses they bred for sale at the National Yearling Sales, then held at Trentham, near Wellington. Traditionally, Australians were the main overseas buyers of New Zealand yearlings, but in the early 2000s buyers from the Asia–Pacific region became prominent.
