Artist Len Lye was both an experimental film-maker and a kinetic sculptor who produced moving sculptures. In this 1977 video clip he demonstrates the flexibility of a hand saw. Lye, who was born and raised in New Zealand but lived most of his life overseas, bequeathed his major works to the Govett-Brewster gallery in New Plymouth after it offered to build large-scale versions of his sculptures.
