Road user charges protest

Business groups occasionally use methods more often associated with political movements. In a nationwide protest by trucking companies in 2008, trucks drove into the centre of all main towns and cities to oppose an overnight increase in road user charges. Tony Friedlander, head of the Road Users Transport Forum, discusses the action in this newsclip. The protest was effective – an independent review was set up, and the government later agreed to give six weeks' notice of any increase.
