Protest meeting about Wellington's waterfront

Video file

In early 2000 the public filled the Wellington town hall to listen to speakers opposing the Variation 17 proposal to redevelop the city’s waterfront. This clip opens with a mock-up of buildings that the Waterfront Watch lobby group claimed could line the waterfront if the scheme proceeded. It also shows Waterfront Watch’s chair Lindsay Shelton addressing the crowd, deputy mayor Alick Shaw shouting from the gallery, and a Variation 17 supporter.
