The cost of aerial topdressing depends on the time taken to apply the fertiliser, and the associated aircraft cost. The speed at which fertiliser can be loaded into the aircraft, and the time spent on each trip largely sets the price of the job. The bucket loader mounted on a truck chassis is now the standard way of transferring fertiliser from a bin to an aircraft, and loading 700 kilograms of fertiliser takes only a few seconds. The turnaround time between landing and takeoff is usually less than a minute.
