Ray Richards first joined A. H. & A. W. Reed as an office boy, aged 15, in 1936, and on returning to the firm after the Second World War he became the production manager and then editor. The first book he was responsible for was Peter Newton's Wayleggo in 1947 and other bestsellers followed, such as Mona Anderson's A river rules my life (1963). Barry Crump's A good keen man, about the life of a deer culler, was the most successful of all. Here, Richards shows off its cover, while Barry Crump talks about the book.
