Clothes for the refugees

Muriel Lipscombe, a volunteer helper at the Māngere Hostel, Auckland, shows off a pair of enormous trousers donated by a member of the public to clothe Vietnamese refugees in 1979. Apart from the Vietnam War, most New Zealanders knew very little about the Vietnamese in the late 1970s. It would have been a struggle to find a refugee to fit these trousers.
