Ko Arekatera Maihi o Ngāti Whātua me Ngā Puhi e hāpai ana i tētahi toki pounamu (he toki i whaoa mai te pounamu) ki Te Puia (New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute). Kei reira ka whakamahia ngā rākau whao o nehe hei te mahi whakairo. Ahakoa kei Te Wai Pounamu anake te pounamu e takoto ana, kei ngā wāhi puta noa i Aotearoa ngā toki pēnei – he tohu ki te whānui o te mahi tauhokohoko pounamu.
