Marine reserves (1 o 3)

Marine reserves

This school of tarakihi was photographed off Kāpiti Island. The sea between the mainland and the island is a marine reserve, as is a smaller area off Kāpiti’s north-western shore. When a reserve was first proposed in the early 1990s, many recreational anglers were against the idea. But by 2005 anglers in areas adjacent to the reserve, and divers, were benefiting from the increased stocks of fish.
