On Labour Day (26 October) 2004, New Zealand’s Polish community celebrated the unveiling of a plaque on the Wellington waterfront. It commemorates the arrival of Polish orphan children and their guardians in 1944. In front of the plaque, which is covered by the Polish national flag, are members of the Orleta Polish Dance Group with some of the 1944 arrivals.
