Gwen and Crawford Somerset were the first directors of the Feilding Community Centre, a pioneering adult education institute and the country's first rural community centre. It opened in the Manawatū town in 1938 at the instigation of Feilding Agricultural High School principal Leonard Wild. The Somersets offered a varied programme of classes and lectures during their tenure at the centure (1938–47). This is Crawford Somerset giving a lecture some time in the 1940s.
