Te Hiko’s headstone

Te Hiko Pīata Tama-i-hikoia and his wife Mihi Mete are buried in the cemetery at Tuhitarata homestead, south Wairarapa; this monument marks the grave. Although Māori Land Court evidence states that Te Hiko died in 1881, the gravestone says 1883.
