In 1965 master Japanese potter Shoji Hamada visited New Zealand and held a workshop at Janet and Wilf Wright's Reikorangi pottery near Waikanae. Japanese potters were very influential in New Zealand and visits by the likes of Hamada were special events. In this photograph Shoji Hamada (seated at right) looks on as Terence Barrow (front left) and Wilf Wright (back left) display some pottery. Hamada's son Atsuya is looking in the cabinet.
