Although centred in the South Island, the 1968 Īnangahua earthquake was the largest to be felt in Wellington for many years. Mrs C. E. Lock, technician at the Seismological Observatory in Wellington, points to the ink from the seismograph, which splattered over the desk when the quake sent it off the scale.
