New Zealand officers in Trieste

New Zealand officers in Trieste

New Zealand and Italy were enemies at the start of the Second World War, as Italy supported Germany. However, a closer bond was formed when Italians helped New Zealand soldiers. The officers pictured were guests at a dance in Trieste, Italy, in 1945. Some New Zealanders eventually married Italian women and came back with them to live in New Zealand.
