Centennial publications

The commemorative publications produced between 1939 and 1941 by the Centennial Branch in the Department of Internal Affairs make an impressive pile. Thirty short pictorial surveys on various aspects of New Zealand history were produced with popular and schools audiences in mind. In addition 11 book-length works examined in depth the major phases of national development as they were seen at that time. Those published were New Zealand in the world by F. L. W. Wood, Government in New Zealand by Leicester Webb, New Zealand now by Oliver Duff, The discovery of New Zealand by J. C. Beaglehole, The farmer in New Zealand by G. T. Alley and D. O. W. Hall, Letters and art in New Zealand by E. H. McCormick, The exploration of New Zealand by W. G. McClymont, The women of New Zealand by Helen M. Simpson, Educating New Zealand by A. E. Campbell, Settlers and pioneers by James Cowan, and New Zealanders and science by S. H. Jenkinson.
