Unity Theatre, 1951

Wellington's Unity Theatre was founded in 1942 by enthusiastic left-wing amateurs. By 1951, when this photo was taken, its productions were becoming more competent and commercially successful. Nola Millar produced this version of Maxim Gorki's The Lower Depths at the Wellington town hall concert chamber.
