Crowds line Lambton Quay, Wellington, for the farewell parade for the 6th Reinforcements on 14 August 1915. The parade was led by the Trentham Camp Band, playing such martial tunes as 'Yes, let me like a soldier fall', 'Sons of the sea' and 'Tipperary'. Trentham and other military camps established their own brass bands. New Zealand-based military bands such as those of the territorial regiments were kept busy during the war playing at parades and patriotic functions. Many local bands lost some of their best young musicians who volunteered for overseas service.
