Canterbury centennial floral procession, February 1951

Canterbury centennial floral procession, February 1951

Canterbury's centennial celebrations in the summer of 1950–51 featured two celebratory processions. The first was '100 years of progress', which was a historical pageant. The second was a floral procession reflecting Canterbury's pride in the fertility of its soil and Christchurch's identity as the garden city. 'The Crown Jewels' was the float of metal manufacturers A. & T. Burt Limited, which expressed the province's continued loyalty to the British monarch.
