The Renderers, formed in Christchurch in 1988 by Brian and Maryrose Crook, were early exponents of the alt-country genre. Their music has strong influences from both country and alternative rock and has been described as 'spiky, garage-influenced, outsider post-punk'. Twenty years after their formation, the band moved to California. They continued to release albums in the 2010s and had a dedicated fan base in both New Zealand and the US.
